Ahhhh sorry! I didn’t answer those questions in detail in this post. I have a draft that’s almost ready about how I started my freelance biz, so in my mind I answered this. My bad! I’ll share that post soon. 🔜
I blame it on the fact that I need a clean space to focus! 😹 I'm curious if any of the other point on the list were relatable? Share allllll the numbers! haha
I think the point about LinkedIn 'broetry' is very interesting. LinkedIn was born as a content platform related to the work/professional/academic field. Although there is naturally an important inspirational component in all the posts that are made, I have noticed that it is as if there is a marked preference (also in terms of quantity) on this platform. Perhaps it is also the reason why people are increasingly migrating to other places. I don't know how from a technical point of view, but perhaps interesting content should be valorized - even from 'smaller' creators - and which above all have a value of sharing knowledge and information. What do you think? P.S. Thanks for sharing all these things!
No prob! This was meant to be a bit funny, it’s not super practical. Would you like to read more about my experience of starting and growing my freelance writing business? I’d be happy to share some more actionable tips too.
“I say no to small businesses” - I work with what I’d call small to small end of mid-sized. Though I’d love some higher ticket work, I feel like the camaraderie and creativity disappear the larger you go. I’d love to know your experience here!
Hi Amanda! That makes sense. And maybe I should have clarified by saying I say not to business that have no (or a limited) budget because I’d rather have a few clients that I can focus on than trying to make ends meet by having many. In reality, some of the startups and scaleups I work with still have a small team. But they have the funds and/or understand the value I offer. Love your site, btw!
It really is about the perceived value - small businesses that see it will find a way to make it work, and larger businesses that don’t will give pushback! Thank you! I’m digging your stuff too 🥰
Manually subscribe all your friends and family. Hehe. Just kidding. I would poke around Substack Notes a bit. Post and engage with other people’s Notes as well. Good luck! 😻
If that’s the case, yeah! We often write it wrong in Argentina. Here it boomed in the 90s, so a lot of kids grew up on it. Then it died a little, and now it’s resurging.
I write out what I earn to two decimal places and, ta-dah, six figures.
Also, I'm a millionaire in roubles 🤣🤣🤣
Hahahaha. Perfect! 😹
How did you get Shopify as first client?
How do you get clients in general?
Where did you find a feline English teacher?
Ahhhh sorry! I didn’t answer those questions in detail in this post. I have a draft that’s almost ready about how I started my freelance biz, so in my mind I answered this. My bad! I’ll share that post soon. 🔜
First 2 questions are both mentioned in my post above! ☝️
- Shopify: I asked someone to introduce me!
- Most of the clients I have now came to me via my bylines on blog articles or word of mouth.
The feline English teacher was created with Leonardo AI via Wowzer. 😻
🤣 I love your humour this made me giggle a lot while reading. I procrastinate in the same way 🪴🧹

Most points resonated although I’m a corporate / tech slave lol I do enjoy my job and salary but I’m planning a secret exit 🤫
Most of my salary also goes to German clean streets and the health system (apparently but I don’t seem to benefit from that lol)
😹 I wish you success with the exit and will happily greet you on the other side!
Cheers to that! 😉
Lot's of giggles here too! 😂
Love to hear that! I’m glad you find it funny. I certainly do! 😹
Love reading those success stories, congrats Alexis!
Thank you!

You're welcome! You make a good point and I think that's exactly what's happening here on Substack.
I have read all the comments (it felt a bit sneaky), but I think folks are not getting it.
Number 9 and 12 are the key (I feel like a genius) maybe 2 as well, haha.
By the way, whenever a lady mentions her age (in any context)I always pretend that she looks young.
Alexis, you look so young.
Hahaha. 9, 12, and 2 are indeed genius. 😹 And, thanks — age is just a number, right? I've been 28 for the last 5 years. Lol.
Yep, age is just number.
Let’s stay forever young!
With good deeds and healthy food.)))
I'm in! haha. But I'd like to enjoy some junk food from time to time.
That's okay. We are humans; we do things for fun and sometimes it's fun to break the rules, haha.
Awesome list, #7 and #10 are super important. As aside, love the random cats you have as the picture for each post lol.
They definitely are! Sometimes I also do #10 right after #7. I should add that as a one of my procrastination tactics in #13. LOL
I'm glad you like the cats! It was an experiment, but many people seem to like Whiskers, so I'm going with it. 😹
The cat picture and gif made this read 10x better😂 it’s my dream to be a paid writer and quit my day job. Thank you for sharing!

You inspired me to write a list of my own 🙂 they are funny to read.
Care to share? 😹
You are very dedicated & the writing showcases this…
Thanks, David!

easy one from me - how to get your first subscriber on substack?
That's the first milestone on my way to 6-figueres ;-)
Manually subscribe all your friends and family. Hehe. Just kidding. I would poke around Substack Notes a bit. Post and engage with other people’s Notes as well. Good luck! 😻
This could work!
I'll let you know when I succeed!
Subscribing right now. So inspiring and honest.
Thanks, Megan! 😻
This made me smile no end! Thank you bringing humour to a subject that can so often feel very heavy!
You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😻
Let’s get the first Substackers Paddle Tournament going ASAP
OMG! That would be awesome. As long as you mean padel and not paddle. hahaha.
Now I’m confused haha.
This one?

Yep, that one! I love it so much!
I like it! Made me laugh.
I’m glad! 😹
